The Southington Symphonic Band's summer concert at Southington HS will feature the work of iconic conductor John Williams.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — The Southington Symphonic Band will celebrate the music of acclaimed film composer John Williams during its annual summer concert early next week.

The free performance is scheduled for Monday, June 22, at 7 p.m. in the auditorium at Southington High School, 72 Pleasant St. Admission is free, though monetary donations will be accepted.

Under the direction of former Southington High School band director Jeff Shaw, the ensemble plans to perform a selection of Williams' best-known works, including "Summon the Heroes" from the 1996 Olympics, "Adventures on Earth" from E.T., "Dartmoor, 1912," "Harry’s Wondrous World," "Lincoln," "Rey’s Theme," "The Imperial March," and "The Jedi Steps and Finale."

The Southington Symphonic Band was established in January 2023 and includes former Southington High School band members, band parents, local music educators, and musicians from Southington and neighboring communities.

The organization is also seeking new members.

Musicians of high school age or older who play a band instrument are eligible to join. Rehearsals for the band's fall concert season will resume in September and are held Mondays from 7 to 9 p.m.

Band officials said there are currently openings for clarinet and double-reed players, with additional opportunities potentially available depending on returning membership.

The ensemble performs four to five concerts annually, and new members may join at the start of each concert cycle.
