State Police: Man Pulled from Burning Car After Crash in I-84 in Southington

"Good Samaritans" came to the rescue after the car burst into flames, state police said.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Alert motorists pulled a Prospect man from a burning car after a wild crash on Interstate-84 on Thursday afternoon, state police said.

The crash report was released late Thursday afternoon.

State police said at 12:31 p.m., Kyle Anderson, 21, of Putting Green Lane in Prospect, was driving a 2013 Subaru Legacy eastbound, east of Exit 28, when the car traveled off the road to the right.

The car struck a reflective post, then a light pole and continued onto a grassy shoulder, state police said.

The car then hit the beginning of a metal beam guardrail, which launched it into the air and into a concrete bridge support column, state police said.

The car then burst into flames and Anderson was pulled from the wreckage by passing "good Samaritans," state police said.

Anderson was then taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Waterbury by AMR Ambulance "for evaluation of injuries sustained," state police said. He was unconscious, but breathing at the scene, state police said.

The crash is still being investigated. Anyone who may have witnessed it is being asked to call state police at 860-534-1000.
