Stats Show Southington Fire Department Responded to 280 Incidents In July

SOUTHINGTON, CT — The Southington Fire Department responded to 280 emergency incidents during July, including six structure fires, 64 emergency medical service calls and 27 motor vehicle crashes, according to the department's monthly response statistics.

Firefighters also responded to five vehicle fires, two outside fires and four motor vehicle crash extrications during the month.

Emergency medical calls accounted for the department's largest incident category. Those included 25 illness-related calls, 22 trauma incidents, 11 lift assists and six cardiac arrest responses.

The department also handled 50 alarm activations, 41 citizen assistance calls, 28 hazardous conditions, 25 hazardous materials incidents and 28 calls that were determined to be non-emergencies.

In addition to emergency response, the department completed a variety of fire prevention and code enforcement activities. During July, personnel conducted 28 code compliance inspections, 11 final acceptance inspections and 14 plan reviews. Fire officials also reviewed three site plans and oversaw one tank removal.

Training remained a significant focus throughout the month. Firefighters and staff logged 1,211 hours of training across 616 training events.

The department reported a 90th percentile response time of 13 minutes, 4 seconds. Crews managed 103 overlapping incidents during the month, and Saturday was identified as the busiest day of the week for emergency calls.

Overall, the department generated 539 unit responses while handling the 280 incidents.

The Southington Fire Department operates four stations located on North Main Street, West Main Street, Clark Street and River Street.
