Stay safely and independently at home without falls

PLAINVILLE – Statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicate more than one in four people older than age 65 fall at home each year. More than 800,000 individuals each year are hospitalized because of a fall, predominately because of a hip fracture or head injury. Once someone has fallen, he or she sometimes become less active because of the fear of a reoccurrence.

Staying Safe and Independent at Home, a free program on Thursday, Aug. 17, 10 a.m., will address falls, risk factors and prevention to be able to remain safely at home. Presenter Diane Snow, PT, Hartford Hospital Rehabilitation Network, will discuss home environment, physical changes associated with age and tips to maintain or improve the present level of independence. This program will be held at Plainville Senior Center, 200 East St. Hartford HealthCare Senior Services is sponsoring this event.
