balance, falls, strength, exercise, Hartford HealthCare, senior services, Jerome Home

MERIDEN - The fear of falling is a major health problem among seniors, and actually has a name: basophobia. As people age, it can become more difficult to maintain balance and falls can become more common. Maquita Parker, exercise physiologist at Jerome Home, will present a free program on Monday, Dec. 4, 10:30 a.m., at Meriden Senior Center, 22 W. Main St. He will focus on reducing environmental risks, improving physicality, boosting bone strength, and additional factors that can prevent falls. Southington Care Center is sponsoring.

Seating is limited. To register, call Meriden Senior Center, 203.237.0066.
