Stove Inferno Badly Damages Southington Home: SFD

The Sunday-morning fire required mutual aid from several area fire department.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Local firefighters are investigating a reported stove fire that spread and damaged a Kane Street residence on Sunday morning, Dec. 17.

According to the Southington Fire Department, units were called to a "reported stove fire" at 60 Kane St.

When firefighters arrived, they found smoke showing from the front door of the single-story, ranch-style home, the SFD wrote in a release Sunday.

The SFD said a single occupant was escorted to safety from the front steps of the home.

"Crews discovered a well-involved kitchen fire that was rapidly spreading throughout the home," wrote the fire department.

"Despite zero visibility and high heat conditions, our personnel aggressively located and contained the fire."

Mutual aid units from Meriden and Bristol were called to the scene and New Britain, Plainville, and Cheshire covered for Southington while SFD units were at the scene.

No injuries were reported and the fire remains under investigation by the Southington Fire Department Fire Marshal’s Office.
