'Street Takeover' In Southington Planned: PD
Police said there is a so-called 'street takeover' event planned in town later in the day on Friday, March 8.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Local police Friday morning are warning motorists that a so-called "street takeover" is being planned for Spring Street later in the day Friday, March 8.
The Southington Police Department said they have confirmed that this event is not sponsored or condoned by area businesses and is not a sanctioned event permitted by the town.

The police department prohibits organizing, participating in, or gathering with the intent to
disrupt these businesses in what can be defined as a “Street Takeover.”
Local police, with assistance from local and state police, will have an increased presence in the area of Spring Street to identify, deter, and take enforcement action if necessary.

Through police presence and technology, Southington police will investigate and hold
accountable any person suspected of participating in an event that amounts to a “Street
Takeover.”
This includes any applicable criminal or motor vehicle violations.
"Any participation in this type of event is strongly discouraged," wrote the SPD.
Such "takeovers" have been a community scourge in recent years, with the illegal events characterized by loud engines, tire smoke, and generally loud and reckless driving on local roadways in various communities.
