Suspect in Southington Homicide Case Dies

The suspect in a Southington murder case has died from a self-Inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — The suspect in a weekend murder in Southington has died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police confirmed Tuesday.

At about 1:30 p.m. Monday, 40-year-old Robert DeSantis died at Waterbury hospital, police said.

Lt. Stephen Elliott from the Southington Police Department said Tuesday the case is still considered an active investigation between Southington and Naugatuck police, despite the death of DeSantis.

At 6:01 a.m. Sunday, Southington police responded to 58 Manor Road for a reported deceased female, according to a news release.

Police said, Michelle Barrett, 41, was found in the back yard, dead from a gunshot wound. Shortly after, the incident was classified as a homicide, police said.

Police said the suspect, DeSantis, of Naugatuck, then went to the Naugatuck Police Department, where he shot himself.
