Suspected Southington Robber Taken into Custody

A suspected robber has been detained by police after allegedly robbing the Sunoco Gas Station on West Street in Southington.

A suspected robber has been detained by police after allegedly robbing the Sunoco Gas Station on West Street in Southington.

Police received a report about the robbery on Sunday shortly after 11:30 a.m., said Sgt. Jeffrey Dobratz, police spokesman.

Police had just received a broadcast a description of the suspected vehicle, a red Ford F250 pickup truck operated by Travis Gornto from an incident that occurred earlier in Bristol. The descriptions from both incidents matched.

The vehicle’s description was broadcast around the state, Dobratz said. It was spotted in New Haven and the vehicle and suspect were taken into custody in Derby.

The suspect is currently in police custody at a hospital. Southington Police have obtained a sealed arrest warrant, but the suspect hasn’t been formally charged.

More information will be released at a later date as it becomes available, Dobratz said.
