Teen Gets Added Assault Charge In Southington Festival Stabbing

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A first-degree assault charge has been added to the case of a teen deemed responsible for the stabbing of another teen last weekend at the Southington Apple Harvest Festival.

The teen was formally charged Friday. He had already been charged with breach of peace. He was to be transferred to an area juvenile detention facility, pending a appearance in court, police said.

The stabbing took place as part of a fight that broke out at 8:19 p.m. Saturday during the festival. Officers working at the festival, along with additional patrol units were able to quickly the disturbance, and, within minutes of the breakout, officers were able to locate and take into custody a 17-year-old who was involved.

A 16-year-old Southington resident, was stabbed in the stomach during the melee. He was taken to an area hospital and had abdominal surgery, police said.

A knife was located at the scene and several witnesses came forward to provide information for detectives, police said.

Police said they are seeking additional witnesses and more arrests are expected.
