Threat Forces Southington Schools Into 'Secure' Mode

A man has been arrested, police said.

SOUTHINGTON, CT - A 42-year-old man was charged after seven schools in Southington were forced into what officials term "secure schools" mode on Tuesday morning, WFSB reported.

Police said the man, Gregory Daly, of Southington, made "personal threats against the staff member" at Southington High School after a dispute.

Following the threat, Southington Superintendent Timothy F. Connellan sent notifications to parents that Southington High School, DePaolo Middle School, Hatton Elementary School and Flanders Elementary School were placed into "secure schools” around 8:15 a.m.

A short time later, Kennedy Middle School, Derynoski Elementary Schooland and Plantsville Elementary School were added to the "secure schools" mode, which is also known as a "soft" lockdown.

Connellan stressed that it was only a precaution.
