SUV Slams Sedan In Southington, Two Injured

Both Meriden men involved hurt, with one suffering reported 'serious' injuries, according to Connecticut State Police.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — State police are investigating a serious, two-vehicle accident that sent two Meriden residents to the hospital with injuries Wednesday morning, including one with serious injuries.

According to Connecticut State Police, the accident happened on Interstate 691 in Southington at Exit 4 at about 6:44 a.m.

Police said a 2011 Nissan Pathfinder, driven by a 49-year-old Meriden man, was traveling in the left-lane of I-691 west.

Meanwhile, accoding to police, a 2008 Kia Rio, driven by a 42-year-old Meriden man, was either stopped or traveling at a slow speed in the left lane, partially disabled after a tire failure.

Police said the Nissan then plowed into the rear of the Kia on I-691.

According to state police, the Kia was sent into a cable barrier on the left side of the highway while the Nisan "spun out of control and came came to a position of final rest in the left lane facing east."

The operator of the Nissan was taken to New Britain Hospital via Hunter's EMS with suspected minor injuries, police said, while the driver of the Kia was rushed to St. Mary's Hospital by AMR-Waterbury for suspected "serious injuries."

Both vehicles were towed from the scene with "disabling damage."
