According to police, a 2018 BMW X3 driven by the 58-year-old Waterbury resident was traveling east on I-84 near the Exit 31 on-ramp in the left lane of three.

Meanwhile, a 2014 Nissan Juke driven by the Cheshire 19-year-old male was traveling in the center lane, next to the BMW.

Police said "for an unknown reason," the 19-year-old's Nissan veered into the left lane and collided with the BMW.

This, police said, shoved the BMW into the left shoulder where it slammed into a guardrail, flipped over, and then rolled over into a bridge abutment.

Police said the driver of the BMW, whose gender was not identified, suffered serious injuries in the rollover and collision and was wearing a seat belt.

Meanwhile, the Nissan driven by the 19-year-old male also slammed into the guardrail and began to roll over, flipping onto the grassy median nearby.

The 58-year-old was rushed to Saint Mary's Hospital in Waterbury with "serious" injuries, police said.

The 19-year-old, however, suffered minor injuries, according to police and was taken to New Britain Hospital for treatment.

This incident remains under investigation.

Any witnesses or those with dashcam footage of the collision or vehicles involved are asked to contact Trooper Michael Dean at Troop H in Hartford at 860-534-1098, or by email at michael.dean@ct.gov.
