United Bank Warning Southington Customers About a Robo Call Scam

SOUTHINGTON, CT - United Bank is warning its Southington customers about a possible telephone scam involving a "fraudulent debt elimination company."

A warning was sent to customers on Friday.

The scam involves automated or "robo" telephone calls pretending to be from United Bank, the warning states.

The calls appear on a phone's caller ID as "United Bank" with the phone number 1-860-291-3833, and will identify those called as possible candidates for debt elimination, according to the warning.

The calls present an invitation to either "press 1" to speak with someone directly or to "press 2" to be taken off their telephone list, according to the warning.

"Please note these calls are not from United Bank. If you receive such a call, do not answer it or hang up immediately. United Bank works diligently to protect our valued customers' privacy and it is currently not our practice to make these types of calls," the warning states.

Bank officials said anyone receiving a suspicious call or email from an entity claiming to be United Bank can contact the bank at 866-959-BANK.

United Bank has a branch at 58 North Main St. in Southington.
