Vehicle Ignites, Spreads To Residence In Southington: SFD

The Southington Fire Department is investigating the cause of a blaze Tuesday that destroyed a vehicle and damaged a building.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Local fire officials are still investigating a car fire that destroyed a vehicle near a residential garage and damaged the building as well.

According to the Southington Fire Department, the blaze happened at 2:51 p.m., when units were called to 109 Kathryn Lane for a report of a vehicle blaze next to a garage.

The SFD said crews were on scene within 7 minutes and, upon arrival, the vehicle was fully involved with flames extending to the building as well.

After Southington firefighters attacked the fire, mutual aid units from Meriden and Bristol were called to the scene and New Britain, Plainville and Cheshire fire departments covered Southington.

The SFD said the mutual aid proved beneficial and all units were able to quickly extinguish the fire, with no injuries reported.

The fire remains under investigation by the Southington Fire Department Fire Marshal's Office, according to authorities.
