Vehicles, School Bus Collide In Southington: Police

The collision at a local intersection Wednesday sent one of the vehicles into a stopped school bus and the other into a utility pole.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Three children were on board a school bus involved in a three-vehicle accident in Southington Wednesday afternoon in which a utility pole was also hit.

According to the Southington Police Department Thursday morning, the officers were called to the intersection of West Street and Prospect Street at 3:46 p.m. Wednesday.

Police said a vehicle traveling east on Prospect Street, stopped at the intersection before crossing into the intersection, colliding with another vehicle traveling north on West Street.

According to police, the school bus was stopped facing west on Prospect Street at the intersection.

The collision forced one of the vehicles to plow into the front of the stopped school bus and the other vehicle slammed into a utility pole, police said.

"The school bus had three children on board who did not suffer any injuries, and all parents and guardians were notified and responded to pick up their children," wrote Southington Police Capt. Keith Egan Thursday morning.

Police said the bus only had minor damage to its front end, while the other two vehicles had "significant damage."

Police said the occupants of both vehicles were taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment, suffering only "minor injuries."
