Vets Affairs Committee Official Blasts Trump on Transgender Policy

Rep. Liz Linehan, the vice chairwoman of the legislative Veterans Affairs Committee, blasted the president on Thursday.

SOUTHINGTION, CT — State Rep. Liz Linehan (D-Cheshire, Southington, Wallingford, the vice chairwoman of the legislative Veterans Affairs Committee, released the following statement on Thursday regarding President Donald Trump's ban on transgender individuals in the military:

“The President’s statement on Twitter announcing his intention to discriminate against transgender service members is indefensible. Less than one percent of the U.S. population currently serves in the armed forces - dismissing any service member who meets the standards and is willing to fight for our country would be senseless. Transgender men and women serving bravely in the military deserve our thanks, not threats from behind a computer screen.
Here in Connecticut we are willing to take a stand and protect those serving in the Connecticut National Guard, the Connecticut Air Guard, and the other armed forces of our state by affirming that we will take no action that discriminates against service members. As Vice Chair of the Veterans’ Affairs Committee, I am proud we have done so.”
