Water Main Breaks in Southington

A water main broke in a busy section of Southington on Monday afternoon.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A water main broke in the vicinity of Spring Street and Queen Street in Southington on Monday afternoon, officials said.

The break was reported just after 4 p.m.

A crew from the Southington Water Department was on the scene repairing the pipe soon after the break, officials said.

Several homes in the area were affected, officials said.

Water department officials were recommending several steps to flush cold water lines as soon as service was restored.

  • Turn the cold water on at the highest faucet in your home or business.
  • Open other faucets one at a time moving from the highest to the lowest.
  • If your home or business is one floor, open the fixture closes to where the water service enters.
  • Run the water for five to fifteen minutes or until water is clear and air is depleted.
  • Once completed, turn faucets off in the reverse order.
  • If the water has not cleared or air is still trapped, repeat after waiting thirty minutes.
