West Hartford Man Charged For Threatening Texts To Southington Woman

SOUTHINGTON, CT - A jilted boyfriend is facing criminal charges - including one for a bias crime - for a series of alleged text and voice messages to a former girlfriend in Southington, police said.

Michael Karpuska , 43 of Elmhurst Ave., West Hartford, was arrested at his residence on Tuesday, Southington police said.

He was charged with second-degree breach of peace, second-degree threatening, second-degree harassment, and second-degree intimidation due to bias

On Tuesday, the victim came to the Southington Police Department the and reported receiving numerous threatening text messages from Karpuska after she ended a relationship with him last week, according to a police report.

The victim also reported she received numerous threatening voice mail messages from Karpuska, police said.

When leaving the messages, Karpuska allegedly threatened to physically harm the victim, police said.

Some of the threatening messages also made reference to harming the victim and others due to their Polish heritage, police said. For that, Karpuska was charged with intimidation due to bias, police said.

A police report indicates there were 39 voice messages from Karpuska to the victim. He sent hundreds of text messages to the Victim since the relationship was ended, police said.

He was held overnight on a $25,000 surety bond and was to appear at Bristol Superior Court on Wednesday, police said.
