Called "Operation Stay Warm," the effort is being sponsored by Southington Community Services.

"Southington residents are invited to prepare for the upcoming winter season by stocking up on gently used winter coats, boats and accessories in both adult and children's sizes," wrote the department.

According to community services, the local Knights of Columbus, Council 15, chapter donated several new children's coats for "Operation Stay Warm."

The rest of the inventory is comprised of donations of new and/or gently used items.

There are some rules regarding who can gain access to the store and how to go about picking up items for winter.

Generally, one coat and one pair of footwear are available per family member.
