Southington Seeks Donations Of Cold-Weather Attire In April

Southington Community Services is asking folks throwing out or storing their winter coats/hats/gloves/mittens to donate them instead.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Spring has sprung and Southington Community Services is hoping folks putting away and/or throwing away their winter attire think of them first.

Southington Community Services' "Operation Stay Warm" aims to provide winter clothing and other cold-weather attire to those in town who need them.

Last year, the initiative was able to distribute 830 gently used winter coats and accessories to residents in need of warmth at the start of the current winter.

Now that winter has come and gone, many folks are packing up their winter attire.

Southington Community Services, which is also working with the Calendar House Senior Center on the project, hopes those items can be set aside for the community next winter.

In April, which starts Tuesday, April 1, folks can then drop off those items at the Calendar House, located at 388 Pleasant St., Southington, where there will be a collection bin in the lobby.

Specifically desired are winter coats in children's and adult sizes, along with other accessories like hats, gloves, mittens, and scarves.

Then, when the next winter rolls around, "Operation Stay Warm" will be full of inventory to help those who need the warmth.
