Woman Charged for Running onto Highway, Then Damaging Cruiser
A woman ran into highway traffic this week, state police said.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Motorists heading from Southington into Cheshire along Interstate-84 on Monday had to avoid a Waterbury woman who was running into the westbound lanes, state police said.
The incident took place at 8:44 p.m., just prior to Exit 26, according to a state police report.
State police saw her on the center median, told her to stop and she ran onto the highway lanes, according to a state police report. She veered into traffic "multiple times," causing drivers to swerve, according to a report.

After being handcuffed, she slammed her hands on the hood of a state police cruiser and damaged it, according to a report.
Tyara Lewis, 22, was charged with being a negligent pedestrian, second-degree reckless endangerment, disobeying the signal of an officer, second-degree criminal mischief and second-degree breach of peace.

Lewis was arraigned in court on Tuesday and released on a promise to appear in court (reduced from her initial $2,000 bond and is due back before a judge on Aug. 16, records show.
