Woman Charged with Stealing Credit Cards from Car in Southington

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Southington police have a arrested a woman for allegedly stealing credit cards from a parked car and making purchases.

On Wednesday, Kira Benton, 33, of New Haven, was arrested on an outstanding warrant held

by the Southington Police Department, according to a report.

The warrant charged her with third-degree burglary, sixth-degree larceny, credit card theft, identity theft, criminal impersonation, and the illegal use of a credit card, police said. It stemmed from
an incident on on July 8, when Benton allegedly entered a parked vehicle and stole
the wallets of the two people that had been in the vehicle, according to a report.

The credit cards were used a short time later at a local gas station. Surveillance video provided a description of the suspect, according to a report. Through "investigative efforts with another local police department" Benton was identified as the suspect seen on the surveillance video, police said.

Benton was released on a $5,000 non- surety bond and scheduled to appear in Bristol Court on
Nov. 13, police said.
