Woman Hurt In Southington Purse-Snatching: Police

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Police in Southington said a violent purse-snatching took place at a store over the weekend.

At about 2 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to Bed, Bath and Beyond, 825 Queen Street, for the report of a purse snatching.

Police said it was reported to police, a dark BMW sport utility vehicle occupied by "numerous males with ski masks" pulled up in front of the store.

One of the men approached a woman walking near the sidewalk, and grabbed her purse off her shoulder, according to a police report.

The woman was pushed to the ground as she attempted to retain her purse and she sustained injuries to her leg, back and buttocks, according t a police report.

The thief was able to get into the vehicle, and it sped off toward Queen Street, police said.

According to a report, officers located the vehicle shortly after on Interstate 84 west, traveling at a high rate of speed and weaving in-and-out of traffic.

The SUV, a black 2008 BMW X5 with New York plates, was stolen in Torrington on Jan. 15, police learned.
2022.

The same vehicle was later identified as being involved in a robbery in Waterbury, before it crashed there. Two masked occupants were able to flee the vehicle on foot, police said.
