Woman's Beloved Bible Stolen From Car In Southington: SPD

Southington police are looking for the public's help in finding the Bible, which is a family heirloom.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Local police over the weekend put out a notice about a sentimental item — a beloved Bible — stolen from a resident's car earlier this month.

According to the Southington Police Department on Saturday, the incident happened at about 12:30 p.m. on May 1 at a parking lot on 405 Queen St.

Police said it is "believed that someone entered her vehicle and took something very sentimental to her."

The Bible, police said, was in a black canvas bag with "Jesus" embossed on it and it is believed the thief thought the bag was a purse containing money.

In reality, police said, the bag had a Bible that had been in the woman's family for "many years."

Police said there is no surveillance footage of the May 1 incident, but are hopeful someone has located the bag and its contents.

The thief "may have discarded it once realizing it wasn't a purse with any monetary value," wrote police on social media.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call Officer Sheehan of the SPD at 860-378-1600.
