Working together to alleviate the symptoms of depression

WALLINGFORD – Older adults today are blessed with a life expectancy that is longer than ever before. However because of this, adults are also being faced with new stressors including chronic health issues, loss of significant other, longer retirement, financial problems, and in some cases, decreased independence. These changes impact each person differently and sometimes can cause depression.
A licensed clinical social worker will lead a free program about the symptoms of depression and how they can be managed using a collaborative approach. This event will be held Wednesday, Aug. 9, 10:30 a.m., at Wallingford Senior Center, 238 Washington St. The presentation will focus on warning signs of depression; behaviors and skills that can help manage feelings of sadness; as well as how society’s perceptions. Facilitator Mary Patricia Daniels, LCSW, is the senior outreach/outpatient clinician at Rushford behavioral health services. Hartford HealthCare Senior Services is sponsoring this program.
