17th Century Kidnapping Recalled
The 1675 plight of a New England family will be brought to life Sept. 8.

A woman abducted by Narragansett Indians in 1675 will be portrayed by Connecticut actress Virginia Wolf in a September 8 program co-sponsored by the South Windsor Historical Society and Wood Memorial Library.
Rowlandson, three of her children, and 20 other residents of Lancaster, MA, were captured and held at the onset of King Philip’s War. Her youngest daughter died in captivity, but Rowlandson and the others were ransomed and returned home. She later wrote a narrative of the ordeal, which became a best seller in the colonies in 1682.
Wolf, a member of of Herstory Theater, will be authentically costumed in her performance at Wood Memorial Library, 783 Main St., at 7 p. m. She previously appeared here in a one-woman show depicting the plight of a half-dozen Connecticut women tried as witches.
Admission is $5 ($3 for members of the society or Wood Memorial Library). Refreshments will be served.
