19-Year-Old Used Gun To Strike Victim, South Windsor Police Say

Officers responding to a Pierce Road home found the suspect hiding in the basement, South Windsor police said.

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — A 19-year-old South Windsor man was arrested after police said he struck another person in the head with what was later believed to be a firearm during an incident Saturday at a Pierce Road home.

According to the South Windsor Police Department, officers were called to 272 Pierce Road around 1 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2026, for a reported assault. Police said Brian P. Misztal, 19, hit the victim on the top of the head with an object, causing an injury. The victim was taken to the hospital and released a short time later.

Police said that after the assault, officers searched the home and found Misztal hiding in the basement with the help of a police K-9. He was taken into custody at the scene.

Later in the weekend, police said the victim returned to police headquarters and reported that he believed the object used in the assault was a firearm. Police said the investigation remains ongoing and that additional charges may be filed.

Misztal was charged with interfering with police, third-degree assault, and second-degree reckless endangerment. He was released on a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Manchester Superior Court on Jan. 21, 2026.

Police said officers returned to the Pierce Road home Sunday evening after receiving a call about a person threatening self-harm. Misztal was found without incident and taken to the hospital for an evaluation.

All charges are allegations. Defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
