SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — The South Windsor Fire Department is mourning the death of a life member whose family's service to the department now spans three generations.

Fine was a former firefighter with Company 3. After spending several years away from the department, he returned and became a longtime member of Company 6, Fire Chief Kevin Cooney said in a department announcement.

His son, Scott Fine, is a South Windsor deputy fire chief, and his grandson, Noah Fine, is a lieutenant with the department.

Born May 24, 1940, in Hartford, Fine served in the U.S. Army before beginning a long career as an electrician. He was a member of IBEW Local 35 and remained active with the union's retirees club after leaving the workforce.

Fine also served on the South Windsor Democratic Town Committee and the board of the World Series Club of Hartford. A devoted Boston Red Sox fan, his work with the club allowed him to meet and befriend numerous professional baseball players over the years.

He was also involved with the Masonic Lodge, Moose Club, Elks Club and American Legion. Outside of his community work, Fine enjoyed boating, deep-sea fishing, old cars and traveling.

Fine is survived by his son, Scott; his daughter, Diane Dickman, and her husband, Jonathan; five grandchildren, Noah, Samantha, Benjamin, Jonah and Joshuah; and his partner, Terry LaPlante. He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Deborah Fine; his daughter, Marlene Fine; and his brother, Gilbert Fine.

A graveside service will be held at noon Wednesday, Aug. 19, at John Hay Memorial Park on Garden Street in Hartford. Those attending should enter from Tower Avenue. Rabbi Daniel Victor will officiate.

The fire department has requested a color team for the service. Uniformed members interested in participating were asked to contact Honor Guard Commander Capt. Tia Olson.

Memorial donations may be made to Visiting Nurse Association Home Care and Hospice of Vero Beach or a charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements are being handled by Hebrew Funeral Associates in West Hartford.
