SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — Firefighters kept a bathroom fire from tearing through a Summer Hill Drive condo Tuesday night, stopping it in the ceiling exhaust fan before it could spread deeper into the attic.

South Windsor Fire was dispatched around 7 p.m. to the 1300 block of Summer Hill Drive for a reported bathroom fire. Car 42, the first fire officer on scene, found smoke inside the unit and signs the fire could be working its way into the attic.

Engine 6 arrived first, laid a supply line from a hydrant and pushed in to attack the fire. An officer arrived shortly after, reported only light smoke showing from outside and took command of the scene.

R5, E3, E4, T1, Sq2 and FP9 were also called in. Manchester Fire Department was requested for mutual aid but was canceled once South Windsor crews had the fire knocked down.

Crews traced the fire to the ceiling exhaust fan and attic space and put it out. Searches of the condo came back negative, and officials said damage to the unit was minor.

No residents or firefighters were injured. The South Windsor Fire Marshal's Office is investigating what sparked the fire.
