(South Windsor, CT)- June 17, 2016- Following last year’s successful fund raiser for the Special Olympics, officers from the South Windsor Police Department will spend all day from 11:00 am till 10:00 pm on Thursday, June 23, once again waiting on dine-in and take-out customers and collecting tips. In 2015, the South Windsor Police raised over $12,000 in just one day of serving patrons at the restaurant located at 855 Sullivan Ave in South Windsor.
Earlier this month, the SWPD participated in the Special Olympics Torch Run 2016, proudly carrying the torch from Manchester to Windsor. The Law Enforcement Torch Run® for Special Olympics Connecticut is one of the movement's largest grassroots efforts to inspire awareness and raise funds. Officers across the state volunteer their time, year-round, to hold events that support Special Olympics.
SW Police coordinator of the event, Agent Ron Littell, is a personal friend of Red Onion Pizza owner Marcel Farhad. “We are honored to have the SWPD wait on our customers for such a great cause. This event is very special to me because of the passion that my good friend has, and I am pleased to support all of the department’s efforts.” Agent Littell may be reached at Ronald.littell@southwindsor.org.
Special Olympics Connecticut provides year-round sports training and competitions for over 14,000 athletes (individuals with intellectual disabilities) and Unified Partners (individuals without intellectual disabilities who are the athletes’ teammates). Special Olympics – in Connecticut and around the world - is about revealing the champion in all of us.
