Been awhile since I posted. Let me catch you up with baseball in my life since my last post. Book - Based on a recommendation from one the comments I read the book "One Shot at Forever". Great Book. Think Hoosiers combined with baseball but in the 1970's. I read the book in one day as it is a short read (less than 300 pages). It is a about a young teacher from Chicago who goes to a small town in the late sixites to be an English teacher and eventually becomes the baseball coach. His hands-off approach works well and by the early 70's the team makes it far into the state tournament. I won't spoil the ending. But in summary it is an enjoyable read, well researched and hits home with people who grew up in the late 60's and early 70's. I also like the fact that they reported on the life of the team after high school. Next Topic - My Mets are playing better. 3 out of 5 from Atlanta and they could have won 4 or 5 of those games. With the win before that and the win in Philadelphia last night they are 5 and 2 in their last 7. Playing well are Wright, newly- acquired Eric Young, Juan Laugares and Bobby Parnell as well as most of the SP with the exception of Marcum. Marcum spot is saved while Niese goes on the DL. He needs to pick it up or he will be gone. Well the Mets are winning recently they are still sloppy in the field. Mostly this is happening in the infield. Wright has let some groundballs play him, while Duda at first and Murphy at both first and second have made some bad decisions. I blame this somewhat on them not being prepared and that falls back to the manager Terry Collins. Last Topic - Current Major Leaguers born in Connecticut - Based on my count there are 8 players who are playing or have played in the majors this season that are CT natives. The most noted is Matt Harvey on my NYM. Born in New London, Harvey is in his second sesaon and is currently the ace of the staff. Rajai Davis is a fourth OF for the Toronto Blue Jays. He is playing a great OF, hitting over .300 and just had his second walk-off hit. He was born in Norwich, went to New London HS and UCONN. This is his eight season in the show. Chris Denofrio, a Bristol native, is in his eight season and is a 3rd/4th OF for the SDP. I believe his also had a good showing playing for team Italy in the World Baseball Classic
