Food to Start the Day - Green Smoothie Anyone?

How do you start your day?

What we eat for breakfast can often set the tone for our entire day.  If you have a sugar filled breakfast with a cup of coffee you may have set yourself up for a day on the sugar roller coaster.

I start most days with a green smoothie - typically something like this:

2-3 Large kale leaves stripped off of stem (or any other leafy greens)

1 Banana

1 Apple, cored (or other fruit as available)

1 Tablespoon ground flax seed

1 teaspoon Cinnamon

1 small piece of ginger about a teaspoon, peeled

About 1 cup of water – more or less depending on desired consistency

Blend until smooth, enjoy!

It gives me nutrients to start my day right and also sets me up with a mind-set that I will be eating healthy for the rest of the day.

When we start the day off with an unhealthy breakfast, we are not only preventing our body from obtaining the nutrients it needs to function but also psychologically setting ourselves up to eat poorly for the entire day.  Something I call the “what the heck effect.”  When you have already started your day with a donut, what the heck, you might as well have the cheeseburger and fries for lunch too.

By preparing ahead of time and putting all of my healthy ingredients into my blender, I start with a fast, delicious nutrient boost to start my day off right.

I use a Vitamix blender for my smoothies – I love it and recommend it to anyone who is serious about healthy eating.  It is fantastic for making smoothies, home made peanut butter or other nut butters and can even be used to make hot soups.  I have a link for free shipping on a Vitamix for anyone considering making the investment. https://www.vitamix.com/Home?COUPON=06-007724
