Assumption College, Worcester MA

  • Victoria Russo, of South Windsor, was one of 653 graduates to receive a degree during Assumption College's 100th Commencement exercises on Sunday, May 14, held at the DCU Center in downtown Worcester, MA, in which speaker John L. Allen, Jr., editor of Crux, a publication that focuses on news of the Vatican and Catholic Church, delivered the Commencement address. Russo received a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Becker College, Worcester MA

  • Sierra St. Onge of South Windsor graduated from Becker College at its 229th Commencement ceremony, on May 6, 2017. St. Onge earned a Bachelor of Arts in Interactive Media Design Cum Laude.
    Becker College honored 464 candidates for graduation from undergraduate and graduate degree programs and the Accelerated Studies program.

Belmont University, Nashville TN

  • Sarah Caye and Jeanette Porcello of South Windsor achieved the Dean's List at Belmont University for the spring 2017 semester. Eligibility is based on a minimum course load of 12 hours and a quality grade point average of 3.5 with no grade below a C. Approximately 30 percent of Belmont's 7,700 students qualified for the spring 2017 Dean's List.

  • A pair of students from South Windsopr have been named to the Champlain College Dean's List for achieving a grade point average of 3.5 or higher in the spring 2017 semester. Josh Celentano is majoring in Creative Media, and Zachery Burnham is majoring in Finance.

Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic CT

  • Eastern students from the Korean Samul Ensemble and Korean Music and Culture Class at Eastern Connecticut State University recently presented their annual spring Korean Music Concert in the Fine Arts Instructional Center (FAIC) Concert Hall. Andrew Hofmann of South Windsor was one of the musicians who performed. Hofmann's major is Music. The Samul Ensemble focuses on traditional music and instruments of Korea. Students learn to play a variety of instruments in this ensemble as well as to learn the cultural heritage of the music they are performing. The majority of the student performers had no experience playing samul music prior to joining the ensemble, but expressed interest in music from a non-western tradition.
  • A number of Social Work majors at Eastern Connecticut State University were recently inducted into Eastern's chapter of Phi Alpha, the national social work honor society. Paula Berson of South Windsor was one of the inductees. Berson's major is Social Work. The society provides a closer bond among students of social work and promotes humanitarian goals and ideals. Phi Alpha fosters high standards of education for social workers and invites into membership those who have attained excellence in scholarship and achievement.
  • A talented cast of Eastern Connecticut State University students recently performed in "Cantilever," the final Main State production of the 2016-17 academic year. The original Eastern production told the story of the apprentices of Frank Lloyd Wright, a prolific 20th-century architect who ran a fellowship program on Taliesin West, his extraordinary Arizona estate. Among the cast was Hanna Madler of South Windsor who played the character Kay Schneider Davison. Madler majors in Accounting and Theatre.
  • Eastern Connecticut State University's annual graduation ceremony was held at the XL Center in Hartford on May 16, with more than 12,000 family members and friends cheering on their sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, as 1,180 undergraduates and 58 graduate students received their diplomas. South Windsor graduates were Connor Allen, Bachelor of Science in Physical Education; Paula Berson, Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work; Sharon Boulet, Bachelor of Science in Psychology; Jonathan Boutin, Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in English; MaryKate Custer, Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences; Cory Derohanian, Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration; Tyler Derohanian, Bachelor of Science in Business Administration; Emilio Estrella, Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Labor Relations and Human Resource Management; Rose Godfrey, Bachelor of Arts in English; Alexandra Lawson, Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education; Hanna Madler, Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting; Richard Mannarino, Bachelor of Science in Accounting; Christopher Mathis, Bachelor of Arts in Sociology; Erin Moriarty, Bachelor of Science in Communication; Paige Nee, Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre; Kara Noble, Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics; Heather Nowak, Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology; Megan O'Brien, Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration; Linda Parlapiano of South Windsor, CT, graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Communication. Elmira College, Elmira NY

  • Marissa Silverman of South Windsor was honored during the Elmira College 47th Annual Athletics Award Banquet, held on May 22, 2017. Members from Elmira's 20 varsity teams, as well as the Sports Medicine Department, received end-of-year awards throughout the night. Silverman was honored as Women's Basketball: Booster Club "Player of the Year", awarded to a player who has completed a full season in one sport. Consideration is given to "Sportsmanlike" qualities and outstanding playing contributions in game situations.

Emerson College, Boston MA

  • A pair of local residents have been named to Emerson College's Dean's List for the spring 2017 semester. The requirement to make the Dean's List is a grade point average of 3.7 or higher. South Windsor honorees are Samantha Crichton, a Writing for Film and TV major, and Janii Yazon, a Writing, Lit and Publishing major

Keene State College, Keene NH

  • 1,245 students have been named to the spring 2017 dean's list at Keene State College, including Amanda Bowman, Matthew Goodall, Nicholas Nowak, Amy Orsini and Kyle Smith of South Windsor.

Marist College, Poughkeepsie NY

  • Marlene Krajewski of South Windsor received a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science & Policy from Marist College the weekend of May 19.

Union College, Schenectady NY

  • John Shuler, of South Windsor, was a presenter at Union College's annual Steinmetz Symposium Day.
    Held yearly since 1991, the symposium features an extensive array of oral presentations, posters, performances and exhibits, with concurrent sessions held all day in lieu of regularly scheduled classes. The evening includes a reception and musical performances. Shuler is a member of the Class of 2018.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester MA

  • Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) has announced that Adam Bettigole of South Windsor, a member of the class of 2019 majoring in computer science, was named to the university's Dean's List for academic excellence for the spring 2017 semester. A total of 1,319 undergraduate students achieved the criteria required for WPI's spring 2017 Dean's List. The criteria for the WPI Dean's List differs from that of most other universities as WPI does not compute a grade point average (GPA). Instead, WPI defines the Dean's List by the amount of work completed at the A level in courses and projects.
  • Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) began its 149th Commencement celebrations with the graduate students' ceremony on Thursday, May 11, awarding nearly 800 masters and doctoral degrees. Kristian Koptchaliyski of South Windsor was awarded a master of science degree in electrical and computer engineering.
  • On Saturday, May 13, on the Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) campus quadrangle, over 1,000 bachelor's degrees were awarded during the university's 149th commencement ceremony. Alexander Huot of South Windsor was awarded a bachelor of science degree in computer science. Daniel Bettigole of South Windsor was awarded a bachelor of science degree in electrical and computer engineering with high distinction.
