SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — Here are some recent achievements for college students residing in South Windsor, as provided by readMedia Newswire.
Assumption College, Worcester MA
- The Assumption College Office of Campus Ministry has announced that Emily Rizza, of South Windsor, spent the winter break on one of the College's SEND Service Immersion Trips. Rizza traveled to Camden. In Camden, NJ, students visited the Romero Center and participated in the Urban Challenge Program, which is an urban, service learning, immersion experience rooted in the Catholic tradition. During the trip, students spent time with the people of Camden, exposing them to the challenges and hope of daily life in the city of Camden. As part of the College's Campus Ministry Office's SEND Service Immersion Program, established in 1986, the students-accompanied by faculty, staff and alumni-have the opportunity to directly impact communities through volunteer work. SEND participants bond with fellow peers, faculty, staff, and alumni while working side-by-side to rebuild neighborhoods, gain new cultural perspective, and engage in prayer activities that reflect on ideals rooted in the Assumptionist tradition. SEND has partnered with organizations like Habitat for Humanity, Romero Center Ministries, Catholic Charities, and Rostro de Cristo Ministry. This January, students traveled to Baltimore, MD; Camden, NJ; Tuscaloosa, AL; and Guayaquil, Ecuador. During spring break 2017, students will head to Baltimore; Washington, D.C.; Immokalee, FL; Norristown, PA; Trenton, NJ; and Georgetown, DE.
Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta GA

- Daniel Cohen of South Windsor has earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. Cohen was among approximately 3,200 undergraduate and graduate students who received degrees during Georgia Tech's 252nd Commencement exercises on Dec. 16-17, 2016, at the McCamish Pavilion.
Quinnipiac University, Hamden CT
- Five students from South Windsor were named to the dean's list at Quinnipiac University for the fall 2016 semester. They are Kaitlin Bakas, Erika Conaci, Andrew Fulop, Nicole Pelikan and Eric Serksnas.

- The following students from South Windsor were named to the December dean's list: Jennifer Belanger, Lauren Christensen, Amanda Gemme, Julianne Hancock, Caitlin McAvoy, Katherine Noske, Olivia Parlapiano, Jacklynn Pragosa, Stephanie Russo, Caitlyn Saxon and Alexis Simons.
University of New Hampshire, Durham NH
- The following students from South Windsor have been named to the Dean's List at the University of New Hampshire for the fall 2016 semester: Aimee Bombara, High Honors; Jonathan Brice, High Honors; Emily Grohs, Highest Honors; David Labins, Honors; Ashley Fournier, Highest Honors; Geneth Chin, High Honors; Sydney Mannarino, Highest Honors. Students named to the Dean's List at the University of New Hampshire are students who have earned recognition through their superior scholastic performance during a semester enrolled in a full-time course load (12 or more graded credits). Highest honors are awarded to students who earn a semester grade point average of 3.85 or better out of a possible 4.0. Students with a 3.65 to 3.84 average are awarded high honors and students whose grade point average is 3.5 through 3.64 are awarded honors.
Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester MA
- Three South Windsor residents were among 1,424 students from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) named to the university's Dean's List for academic excellence for the fall 2016 semester.
Adam Bettigole is a member of the class of 2019 majoring in computer science. Daniel Bettigole is a member of the class of 2017 majoring in electrical and computer engineering. Gillian Cohen is a member of the class of 2020 majoring in mechanical engineering. The criteria for the WPI Dean's List differs from most other universities as WPI does not compute a grade point average (GPA). Instead, WPI defines the Dean's List by the amount of work completed at the A level in courses and projects.
