SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — Here are some recent notable achievements for college students from South Windsor, as reported by readMedia Newswire.

Colgate University, Hamilton NY

  • Colgate University Class of 2017 member Anna Pearce, from South Windsor, has earned the fall Dean's Award for Academic Excellence. The Dean's Award at Colgate is awarded to students with a 3.3 or higher term average.

  • Nineteen talented student vocalists from Eastern Connecticut State University's Music Program were selected to perform in the Game of Thrones Live Concert Experience at the Mohegan Sun Arena on Feb. 25. The epic three-hour concert immersed performers and audience members of the sold-out show into the world of Westeros. Andrew Hofmann of South Windsor was among the performers. Hofmann majors in Music. "It was a surreal experience," said Hoffmann. "The whole group put a lot of hard work and effort into learning the pieces and gave it their all for the performance. It was an amazing opportunity and one I will never forget."
  • Thirteen Eastern Connecticut State University students recently attended the Region I Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury, CT, where they attended theatre workshops and competed in acting and design competitions. Theatre faculty members Ellen Brodie, J.J. Cobb and Chase Rozelle accompanied the students. Among the students was Hanna Madler of South Windsor, who majors in Accounting and Theatre.
  • A talented cast and crew of Eastern Connecticut State University students recently performed in "Two Gentlemen of Verona," the second Main Stage production of the 2016-17 academic year. The play was a musical adaptation of Shakespeare's early comedy about young people exploring love, friendship and the temptations of city life. It ran from Feb. 23 to March 5. The show featured three students from South Windsor: Hanna Madler, who was the character Sylvia as well as a member of the fashion show design crew, and who majors in Accounting and Theatre; Megan O'Brien, who was a lighting designer and majors in Business Administration; and Alissa Pereira, who was the character Lucetta, and majors in Theatre. "Two Gents" was the first Eastern production to feature a live band of musicians in the pit of the new Proscenium Theatre. The show's intermission featured a fashion show, showcasing the creations by students in Eastern's costume-fashion design minor.

Manchester Community College, Manchester CT

  • Twenty-five students from South Windsor were named to the President's list at MCC for the fall 2016 semester: John Bereuter, Jennifer Brihan, Jack Callahan, Anna Chinsky, Thomas DeVito, Alexander Gogic, Jacqueline Gooley, Tricia Graff, Annette Green, Mallory Ingersoll, Attia Javaid, Michael Kehayias, Elena Kruzhalova, Brad McDonald, Pirro Muchollari, Hayley Neadle, John Otto, Kimberly Peckham-Cox, Stephanie Phillips, Joseph Schifferdecker, David Schultz, David Sullivan, Christina Thomas-Walker, Anna Wallace and Lukasz Woloszyn.
  • Seventeen South Windsor students achieved Dean's list recognition at MCC for the fall 2016 semester: Nathan Carman, Ana Cinxo, Zachary Collins, Mohamad Ezzeddine, Austin Ferreira, Julian Good, Taylor Hadden, Braden Haddock, Sydney Kellner, Kyleen Kobrzycki, Brieana Legnani, Steven Levine, Lindsay Mousseau, Alexandra Novak, Lilaina Shaffer, Melinda St. Onge and Laurel Stone.

Merrimack College, North Andover MA

  • Samantha Pineo of South Windsor was named to the Merrimack College Dean's List for fall 2016.
    Each semester, Merrimack College undergraduate students earn the right to be named to the Dean's List by earning a minimum 3.25 GPA based on a 4.0 GPA grading system.
