College Sports Honor Goes to ECSU Student from South Windsor

She was named Offensive Player of the Week by the Little East Conference.

WILLIMANTIC, CT — Women’s lacrosse attack Katie Burke of Eastern Connecticut State University has been recognized in the Little East Conference weekly awards program for the first time, earning Offensive Player-of-the-Week recognition in the sixth weekly report, released Monday.

Ranked first in the LEC in assists (27) and tied for first in points (47), the South Windsor product led the Warriors with 16 points and nine assists and was second on the team with seven goals in a 2-1 week. Burke contributed seven points on three goals and four assists in a 15-8 triumph over the University of Southern Maine in Eastern’s Little East Conference opener Saturday afternoon at the Mansfield Outdoor Complex. She had four assists and two goals in a 16-6 midweek non-conference home victory over Worcester State University, and concluded the week Sunday with two goals and an assist in a 12-10 non-conference loss at Wellesley College.

During the week, Burke moved up three spots into third place all-time at Eastern in assists with 62.

Eastern (8-4/1-0 LEC) visits Keene State College Saturday at noon in a confrontation between last year’s LEC regular-season co-champions.
