Merle McKenzie and

Glenn Perra founded CrossFit Relentless Strength and Conditioning in 2009. They

describe CrossFit Relentless as a school of human movement dedicated to helping

individuals achieve an elite level of physical performance.

 “We are a principal

strength and conditioning program utilizing Olympic and power lifts,

gymnastics, and calisthenics in constantly varied functional movements

performed at high intensity,” said McKenzie.

 One glance inside the CrossFit

Relentless South Windsor location and it is clear the space is a different kind

of gym. The machines that dominate a typical gym’s space are missing; most of

the floor is open, gymnastics rings and a thick rope hang from the ceiling, and

a large pull-up rack hulks in a

corner of the floor. This is almost never referred to as a “gym” but instead as

a CrossFit “box.”

When asked about the facilities at CF South

Windsor, McKenzie states, “CrossFit South Windsor is a 7500 sq ft strength and

conditioning center…excellent new equipment, and one of the most well equipped

CrossFit gyms in the state.  It will also have a complete

wellness center with Massage Therapy, Chiropractic care and a dedicated Yoga

room.”

CrossFit Relentless operates

four boxes already in Connecticut (West Hartford, Glastonbury, Higganum and

Durham) and holds three competitions a year that attract competitors from all

over the nation.   As a member of any of

the CrossFit Relentless gyms, you are able to use any of the sister boxes with

no additional fees- 5 boxes for the price of 1.

CrossFit training is done as a

group training session where camaraderie and a sense of humor can go a long

way. Athletes attend hour-long sessions two to five times a week during which

every athlete is coached by a CrossFit-certified trainer to complete the

workout of the day, or WOD.

 For those interested

in experiencing CrossFit, CrossFit Relentless will offer a free workout session

for those who have never experienced a CrossFit workout. It doesn't require a

certain level of fitness; it only requires commitment.
