Delivery Driver's 911 Call Leads To Fast Knockdown Of South Windsor Fire
An oil delivery driver called 911 after seeing smoke and hearing alarms inside the home.
SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — A routine oil delivery turned into a fire response Tuesday morning after smoke was spotted inside a home in South Windsor, according to an email from Deputy Chief Jared Pelletier.
Around 10:50 a.m., an oil delivery driver saw smoke through the windows at 635 Nevers Road and heard a smoke detector going off, prompting a 911 call.
When firefighters arrived, there was no visible smoke from outside, but a strong burning smell led them to force entry into the home.

Inside, crews encountered heavy smoke and worked to track down the source.
A working fire was declared as additional crews were called in.

The fire was quickly traced to a pile of rags burning in the kitchen and was put out before it could spread. Officials said there was no damage beyond that area.
Searches of the home confirmed no one was inside, and no pets were found.
The house was vacant at the time and undergoing renovations.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
