DUI Driver Strikes Mailbox, Flees Scene: Police

South Windsor Police made two DUI arrests over the weekend.

South Windsor Police made two DUI arrests over the weekend, including one in which the driver allegedly struck a mailbox and fled the scene.

A resident called police around 2 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12, to report that a car struck their mailbox and drove away.

Police located the vehicle a short time later on Ellington Road and stopped the driver for a violation.

The officer suspected the operator was under the influence of alcohol. Following a series of roadside sobriety tests officers arrested the operator, Stephanie Corbin, 29, of 260 Pittsfield Road, Lenox, Mass.

Corbin was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, evading responsibility and failure to drive in proper lane. She was later released on a $1,000 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear at Manchester Superior Court on Jan. 4.

On Sunday, Dec. 13, at about 3:45 a.m., a South Windsor Police officer stopped a vehicle on Buckland Road for a violation.

The officer suspected the operator was under the influence of alcohol. Following a series of roadside sobriety tests officers arrested the operator, Michael Sutcliffe, 29, of 17 Fairfield Lane, Glastonbury.

Sutcliffe was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and failure to drive in proper lane. Sutcliffe was later released on a $1,000 non-surety bond. He is scheduled to appear at Manchester Superior Court on Jan. 4.
