Hundreds of Pounds of Drugs Collected on South Windsor Takeback Day
Police officers and volunteers collected 22 boxes of unwanted and expired medications Saturday.

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — A periodic takeback day for unwanted and expired prescription drugs was highly successful in South Windsor Saturday, Deputy Chief Scott Custer said.
Police officers and citizen volunteers collected 22 boxes weighing a total of 700 pounds of unwanted medications.
These events are held to reduce the risk of prescription drug diversion and abuse, and accidental ingestion. Additionally, the proper disposal of unwanted and outdated medication lessens the chance of negative environmental impact such as groundwater contamination and watercourse pollution, Custer said.
