SOUTH WINDSOR-SIMSBURY-CANTON, CT — The owner of three pizza restaurants has closed them all down in recent months, including one which had been in business for nearly two decades.

Joe Pizza, which originated on Route 44 in Canton in 2003 and expanded into Simsbury in 2009, opened a third location in the Sullivan Place Center at 855 Sullivan Avenue in South Windsor in May 2020.

It is uncertain exactly when the various locations shut down. The South Windsor site, opened by Chris Giotsas in the longtime home of the Red Onion Pizzeria & Restaurant, last posted activity on its Facebook page in mid-February, and its most recent Yelp! review was later that month.

According to the Joe Pizza website, which has recently been deactivated, March 20 was the final day for the Simsbury shop, while the Canton closure date is unknown. Patch has messaged Giotsas seeking clarification.

About six months ago, a social media post by the owners indicated a lack of employees was forcing them to temporarily close two of their restaurants. The message read, "Our Canton and South Windsor locations are temporarily closed due to staff shortage."
