Long-Awaited Skate Park Draws Rave Reviews in South Windsor

Park for skateboarders and bikers was delayed for years but recently opened on Nevers Road.

The long-awaited Skate Park recently opened on Nevers Road in South Windsor and has drawn rave reviews from its users and supporters.

It took a few years for the project to get off the ground after funds were allocated in 2012, but after all the delays it has been worth the wait for the skateboarders and bikers that have been getting use out of it since it officially opened on Aug. 23.

The park features square and round grindrails, a quarter pipe, slant edges and more.

Sean Kennedy, 15, said the park is “such a great place to go after high school.”

Gary Bazzano, who was a big supporter of the park while he was South Windsor’s Deputy Mayor, said he is “so happy it was finally built.”

“I was concerned that these poor kids that came to us many years ago, would never have the opportunity to skate in South Windsor, as they would be older and out at college,” Bazzano said. “We need to take care of all types of residents in South Windsor and this was one demographic that was overlooked by many elected officials for years… It is one more asset our town has to attract families to South Windsor.”
