MDC Board To Vote On Water Rate Increase

NORTH CENTRAL, CT — The Metropolitan District Commision's board of directors is scheduled to vote on a rate increase for both member and non-member towns early next month.

The District's budget for 2020 totals $202,478,100. That's a $13,009,900 — or 6.9 percent — increase from this year's budget.

The MDC in Hartford County is a non-profit municipal corporation established in 1929 by Special Act 511 of the Connecticut General Assembly.

Under the proposed budget, the average customer in an MDC member town receiving both water and sewer services would experience an increase of $5.25 per month, or $63 a year.

Member towns are

• West Hartford
• Bloomfield
• East Hartford
• Hartford
• Newington
• Rocky Hill
• Wethersfield
• Windsor

Residents of non-member towns getting just drinking water from the MDC would be billed an extra $4.25 per month, or $51 per year.

Non-member towns are:

• Farmington
• Glastonbury
• East Granby
• South Windsor

The MDC board is scheduled to vote on the proposed budget on Dec. 2 at 555 Main St. in Hartford. The meeting is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m. and is open to the public.
