SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — Here are some recent notable achievements for college students from South Windsor, as reported by readMedia Newswire.

Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic CT

  • Brand-new graduates and select students from the theatre program at Eastern Connecticut State University brought their skills to New York City for the program's annual NYC Showcase. On May 21-22 at the Producers' Club Crown Theatre, 13 students (some of them now alumni) acted or worked behind the scenes in "Scenes, Songs, and Monologues 2017." Directed by Jerry Winters, the production was a compilation of short works, including contemporary and classical texts, original dance and songs from Broadway musicals. It was performed by an ensemble of nine actors who played multiple parts. Among the participants were South Windsor residents Hanna Madler, an Accounting and Theatre major who played Annie in Stephen King's "Misery" and Love Me in Guare and Shapiro's "Two Gentlemen of Verona, the Musical," and Ryan Rosenbaum, an Accounting major who was the sound coordinator.
  • The Department of Psychological Science at Eastern Connecticut State University held its 2017 Summer Research Institute on May 18-24 on the Eastern campus. This year's institute involved 10 undergraduate students and focused on the various factors that influence healthy eating. The institute was led by professors Jenna Scisco and Joseph Dracobly. Among the participants was Allison Lundy of South Windsor, whose independent study was titled "Subtle vs. Explicit Messages: Consumer Motivation and Consumer Food Choices." Lundy majors in Pre-Early Childhood Education and Psychology.

Emmanuel College, Boston MA

  • Emmanuel College celebrated its 95th Commencement Exercises on Saturday, May 13, 2017, adding hundreds of graduates to the global network of Emmanuel alumni who are making their mark on the world. South Windsor graduates were Jeffrey Allen, Bachelor of Arts in English Literature & Secondary Education; Jamie Siracusa, Bachelor of Arts in Management; and Molly Leroux, Bachelor of Arts in Sociology (Crime and Justice).

Springfield College, Springfield MA

  • Springfield College recently held its commencement weekend. At the graduate commencement, 658 master's degrees, six certificates of advanced graduate study, 15 Doctor of Philosophy degrees, 34 Doctor of Physical Therapy degrees, and five Doctor of Psychology degrees were awarded. At the undergraduate commencement, 873 bachelor's degrees were awarded for a two-day total of 1591 degrees. South Windsor graduates were Kelsey Joyce, bachelor's of science degree in Art Therapy; Karen Bassilakis, bachelor's of science degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders; Evan Cheman, bachelor's of science degree in Health Science and Pre-Physical Therapy; and Caitlyn Holik, doctor of physical therapy degree in Physical Therapy.
  • Springfield College has named 13 students from South Windsor to the dean's list for academic excellence for the spring 2017 term: Kelsey Joyce, Karen Bassilakis, Vincent Gallo, Eric Walz, Emily Van Horn, Alison Baranauskas, Olivia Siracuse, Evan Cheman, Alexandra Goslin, Zachary Marlin, Dexter Tenn, Margaret Flores and Curtis Bolduc. Criteria for selection to the dean's list requires that the student must have a minimum semester grade point average of 3.500 for the semester.

University of Scranton, Scranton PA

  • Eric S. Hintz of South Windsor was among the more than 800 bachelor's and associate's degrees at its undergraduate commencement on May 28 at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza in Wilkes-Barre. Hintz earned a Bachelor of Science degree in international business.

University of Vermont, Burlington VT

  • Three South Windsor students have been named to the University of Vermont Dean's List: Eric Roback, Kevin Roback and Kyle King. To be named to the dean's list, students must have a grade-point average of 3.0 or better and rank in the top 20 percent of their class in their respective college or school.

Western Connecticut State University, Danbury CT

  • South Windsor residents Anthony Asmar and Sebastian Milluzzo recently graduated from Western Connecticut State University.
