SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire. More great feats will be noted in the coming weeks.

Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic CT

  • More than 300 Eastern Connecticut State University students were recognized for scholarly excellence at the conclusion of the spring 2023 semester. Among those honored were: Rachel Drouin of South Windsor, a senior who majors in English, who gave a senior seminar presentation at the English Awards and Reading Ceremony on May 3 in the Student Center's Betty R. Tipton Room. Drouin's senior presentation was titled, "Reading and Writing Social Justice Literature." Lindsay Fishman of South Windsor, a junior who majors in health sciences, received the Outsanding Junior Award and the Excellence in Allied Health Award at the Health Sciences Awards and Honors Society Induction on April 19 in the J. Eugene Smith Library. Sarah Mazzaro of South Windsor, a junior who majors in finance, was inducted into the Delta Mu Delta honor society at the Business Honors Reception on April 18 in the Student Center's Betty R. Tipton Room. In order to be inducted, students must have a 3.25 GPA in their field and be in the top 20 percent of their junior or senior class. Mitchell Bagcal of South Windsor, a senior who majors in communication, received the Excellence in Public Relations (PRSSA) Award at the Department of Communication's Celebration of Excellence on April 26 in the Fine Arts Instructional Center Concert Hall.

Hamilton College, Clinton NY

  • Ronnak Saxena of South Windsor received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hamilton College on Sunday, May 21, in a Commencement ceremony concluding the college's 211th year. Saxena, a computer science major, completed a thesis project titled "Women in Mormon Studies Web Site."

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy NY

  • Three students from South Windsor have made the Dean's Honor List for the spring 2023 semester at RPI. Dorian Bilelis is studying computer science, Kassandra Le is studying architecture, and Daniel Savidge is studying computer science. Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's Dean's Honor List is compiled at the end of each semester to recognize undergraduate students who have completed 12 or more credit hours with a 3.5 grade point average or better for that term.

State University of New York, Potsdam NY

  • Ryan Dunia of South Windsor was recently named to the President's List at the State University of New York at Potsdam. Dunia, whose major is music education, was among 716 SUNY Potsdam students who were honored for academic excellence in the spring 2023 semester. To achieve the honor of being on the President's List, each student must have satisfactorily completed 12 numerically-graded semester hours, with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa AL

  • Madeline Fischer of South Windsor was named to the University of Alabama Dean's List for spring semester 2023. Students were named to the dean's list with an academic record of 3.5 or above.

University of Maryland Global Campus, Adelphi MD

  • Keith C. Goodale of South Windsor earned a Bachelor of Science degree in cybersecurity management and policy from University of Maryland Global Campus in spring 2023. Goodale was one of nearly 3,400 students who earned degrees from UMGC in the spring semester.

University of Saint Joseph, West Hartford CT

  • Three students from South Windsor earned their way to the Dean's List for the spring 2023 semester. Students were awarded this academic achievement for having earned a GPA of 3.50 or higher for the semester, with no grade lower than a "B." Honorees from South Windsor were Julia Martocchio, majoring in special education; Michael Pietrowicz, majoring in criminal justice; and Ananya Srivatsav, majoring in nursing.
