Number One

My name is Adam Colter. I married a 10; I'm about a -3. Yet contrary to the laws of math, we produced two boys that are both 11's.

I'm a pastor at Colonial Point Christian Church on Chapel Road in South Windsor. Love it.

I really like baseball (Atlanta Braves and whatever team my 9 year-old is playing for). I read a lot of fiction. Orson Scott Card, Patrick Rothfuss, Neal Stephenson, Preston & Child, and basically anything friends recommend. I watch Jeopardy! and Duck Dynasty and House Hunters - to support my wife, of course ;).

I was raised by Christian parents. That's kind of an understatement. My Dad was a preacher. He took some time off after The Divorce (20 years), and now he is a preacher again. My mom knows the Bible better than anyone I know, and I know a lot of people who know the Bible. My parents are great. But we had some not so great times. After The Divorce, I was really angry with God and disappointed in my parents. I didn't exactly walk away from my faith, but I put it on indefinite probation. And when probation lifted, I jumped in with both feet. There's more to that story, but I'll save it.

I'm convinced that everyone has a "Number One". A central conviction or desire, a reason for getting out of bed every morning. Number One could be Family. Or Love. Or Happiness, Wealth, Success, Faith, etc. Our Number One shapes our big decisions, how we think about the future, and the past. It informs how we vote, how we spend our money and our leisure time. Knowing a person's Number One tells you more about that person than any other piece of information.

Questions: Do you know your Number One?
Are you honest enough with yourself to identify your prime motivator in life? Does centering your life around your Number One lead to good results? Have you found what you're looking for in life?
Can a person change his Number One?To what effect?

The answers to these questions have huge implications for each of us. There is more here than good fodder for discussion. But let's discuss...
