Obituary: Alpheus Wilkinson, Sr., 80, Of South Windsor

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT - On Friday, December 7, 2018, Alpheus Wilkinson, Sr. entered into eternal life with his loving wife and family at his side. Al was truly the patriarch of his family, a pillar in his church, and was loved, admired, and respected by all who knew him.
Al was born on June 30, 1938 in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Cora (Covington) and Andrew Wilkinson. He met and married Barbara Jean, they started a family, and they moved to Connecticut in 1961 where he began a long and successful railroad career, retiring from Conrail (CSX) in September 2000 after 39 years of service. In his retirement, he worked part-time as a driver for Enterprise Rent-A-Car. Al was “Mr. Good Shephard” as he was an active and dedicated servant for decades. He was most devoted to his role as Acolyte Master; it was his closest service to The Lord.

Al is predeceased by his parents Cora (Covington) and Andrew Wilkinson and brothers James Wilkinson and Andrew Wilkinson.He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 60 years, Barbara Jean (Bynum) Wilkinson; two sons, Alpheus Wilkinson, Jr. (Gwen) and Kevin Wilkinson, Sr., and daughter Tiffany “Precious” Wilkinson; grandchildren Alpheus III, Jerrick, Kyle, Tanesha (Bruce), Kyndra, Cheryl, Kevin Jr., Kori, Karli, Jovaun, and Amber; great-grandchildren Tynnasia, Taylar, Isabella, Roman, Marcel, Kapri, and Kyla; special cousins Otis “Goat” Butler and Brenda “Boston” Butler of Detroit, MI; and a host of honorary kids and grandkids, extended family, and friends.
Celebration of life services will be held at 11am on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at The Church of the Good Shephard, 155 Wyllys St. Hartford, CT 06106, with a 10am calling hour. Interment will be at Wapping Cemetery, 40 Oakland Rd. South Windsor, CT 06074. Services are entrusted to Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave. Windsor, CT.
