SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire. More great feats will be noted in the coming weeks.

Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic CT

  • Senior defender Jared Caroline of South Windsor represented Eastern Connecticut State University at the New England Intercollegiate Soccer League (NEISL) Senior All-Star Game on Nov. 27 on the campus of Brandeis University. The annual men’s soccer exhibition showcases the top Division III seniors at New England institutions. Caroline overcame injury to start 10 of the 12 matches in which he appeared, averaging 76.7 minutes, playing every minute six times. His first of two goals came in the second match of the season in the opening minute of a 1-1 tie at Randolph-Macon College. In his career, Caroline started 51 of the 53 matches in which he appeared, averaging 79 minutes a game and collecting five goals and four assists.
  • Eastern Connecticut State University's English Department recognized student achievements on Dec. 8 during its annual English Night celebration. Thirty students were inducted into the national English honor society, Sigma Tau Delta, and several others received scholarship awards and presented capstone projects. Among these students was Jessica Vieira of South Windsor, a junior majoring in English. Vieira was inducted into the national English honor society Sigma Tau Delta.

Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta GA

  • Connor Riley of South Windsor has earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Operations Research from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. Riley was among approximately 1,660 undergraduate and graduate students who earned degrees during the summer 2022 semester.

Lasell University, Newton MA

  • Griffin Bryan, a Lasell University student from South Windsor, presented at the institution's annual Career Readiness Symposium. Bryan presented a fashion industry capstone project, "Uncommon Threads, Uncommon Closet," with the Lawrence, Massachusetts nonprofit of the same name. The presentation recapped a semester-long collaboration with the company, during which student teams researched a set of challenges and produced deliverables in response at the conclusion of the project.

Springfield College, Springfield MA

  • Springfield College has named 11 students from South Windsor to the dean's list for academic excellence for the 2022 fall semester. They are Jennifer Burnham, Evan Carlson, Justin Clark, Victoria DelRosso, Lyndsay Donston, Emilee Gebhart, Karen Joy, Lauren Landino, Kelly Morson, Karly Suppicich and Jessica Van Horn. The criteria for selection to the Dean's List are as follows: The student must have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours of graded coursework for the term, exclusive of "P" grades. The student must not have any incompletes or missing grades in the designated term. The student must have a minimum semester grade average of 3.500 for the term.

State University of New York, Potsdam NY

  • Ryan Dunia of South Windsor was recently named to the President's List at the State University of New York at Potsdam. Dunia, whose major is music education, was among 809 SUNY Potsdam students who were honored for academic excellence in the fall 2022 semester. To achieve the honor of being on the President's List, each student must have satisfactorily completed 12 numerically-graded semester hours, with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

University of Saint Joseph, West Hartford CT

  • Five students from South Windsor have been named to the fall 2022 dean's list: Casey Bieber, Kinsley Green, Jonathan Huot, Julia Martocchio and Michael Pietrowicz. To qualify, students must earn a GPA of 3.50 or higher for the semester, with no grade lower than a "B."

Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester MA

  • Zach Manfredi of South Windsor, a member of the class of 2024 majoring in chemical engineering, was a member of a student team that recently completed an intense research project titled An Attempt to Optimize IDAAN's Water Treatment Plant Process. At WPI, all undergraduates are required to complete a research-driven, professional-level project that applies science and technology that addresses an important societal need or issue. About two-thirds of students complete a project at one of the university's 50-plus off-campus project centers, which are located around the world. A signature element of the innovative undergraduate experience at WPI, the project-based curriculum offers students the opportunity to apply their scientific and technical knowledge to develop thoughtful solutions to real problems that affect the quality of people's lives-and make a difference before they graduate.
