Two South Windsor Restaurants Show Signs Of Opening

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — Two long-awaited restaurants are moving closer to opening in South Windsor, according to a new report from Town Manager Michael Maniscalco.

Sally’s Apizza expects to begin work on its restaurant at 5 Cedar Ave. around mid-September or October, according to the report prepared for the Sept. 21 Town Council meeting.

A building permit has already been issued for the project. The restaurant will occupy a previously constructed shell building near Chipotle and Starbucks at the Evergreen Walk development.

The update provides a new timeline for a project that has experienced a lengthy delay. Sally’s previously received approval for the location, but construction on the restaurant’s interior had yet to begin.

Benson’s Bagels is also approaching the final stages of its project at 1014 Sullivan Ave. The South Windsor Health Department recently conducted a walkthrough and authorized the owner to begin bringing food into the restaurant, according to Maniscalco’s report.

Once the restaurant is ready to open, town staff will conduct a final pre-operation inspection. The authorization to bring food into the building does not represent final approval to open, and an opening date has not been announced.

The South Windsor restaurant will be Benson’s second Connecticut location. The Springfield-based business also operates a restaurant on Enfield Street in Enfield.

Sally’s, meanwhile, was founded in New Haven in 1938 and has expanded with locations across Connecticut and Massachusetts. The company has not announced an opening date for its South Windsor restaurant.
